About Our Wood Tool and Yarn Company

Beginnings

Knitting Notions is a family owned and operated business. Our business opened in 2005 with our first product, handmade Yarn Swifts. What initially began as a second income in the beginning has now grown to be a full time sole income for us. Product development is an on-going element which includes all aspects of our woodworking, yarn dyeing and pattern publishing.

Wood Knitting Tools

All of our own products are developed and produced from a home-based workshop in Nashville, Tennessee. We have added to our product line regularly in the years since then to include many unique wood tools and accessories. At the present this includes Sock Keepers, Nostepinnes, Darning Eggs, Shawl or Hair Sticks, Yarn Boxes, and Bowls.

Hand Dyed Yarn and Dyeing

Around the same time, in addition to wood working, we began a custom yarn and fleece dyeing service. Soon after that time we developed a line of hand dyed merino wool yarns in a curated palette of 32 repeatable colors which we added to our growing product line.

Many knitters appreciate our large range of semi solid colors. Our specialty is custom mixed colors that look natural and are easy to wear. We use only the highest quality professional dyes, selected for their superior light fast and color fast ratings and for their excellent selection of primary pigments for mixing.

The yarns we dye are selected for their versatility in a wide range of knitting and crochet projects. We love merino wool yarns for its properties. It looks amazing when dyed and is very soft and comfortable next to the skin. Our line focuses on finer gauge yarns ranging from fingering weight, sport weight and DK weight. We hand dye two fingering weight yarns; a 65% superwash merino wool and 35% rayon of bamboo blend and a 100% superwash merino wool. Both our sport weight and our DK weight are 100% superwash merino wool.

Knitting Patterns

A great line of hand dyed yarns is made even better with pattern support and knowledgeable yarn substitution help. We are knitters ourselves and have over 40 years of knitting experience. I have knit extensively with all of our yarns and provide information about their uses and applications. Help with selecting the correct yarn for a project or pattern support is only an email or a phone call away.
