Yarn Boxes and Other Updates

We are keeping production going in the hopes that we can get back out there soon vending at festivals. So far we have lost 7 festivals from the first half of the year. Two more that are in late May and mid June in Ohio are holding off until next month to decide on whether they may hold the events. I am trying to remain hopeful that they will be able to happen. We do have our online sales, but that is such a small percentage of our income in comparison to festivals that it is not making up our losses. Maybe the second half of the year will rebound us all?

Finishing Yarn Boxes

Anyway, so we have finished up a large batch of Yarn Boxes, as you can see above. The finish is curing for a few days before we apply the final wax and labels. We have plenty on the website ready to ship if you had been planning to pick one up at a festival that cancelled this spring. :-)

At least spring didn’t forget to arrive in Tennessee. It’s one consolation to be able to walk around our property and see evidence that life does go on even in the midst of many upheavals. I have always appreciated the wild flowers on our lawns. I don’t mind a bit that it’s not all just grass. I think it’s much more interesting. Here’s one of my favorites that are usually blooming by mid March or early April in these parts. I love violets because I am a big fan of purple.

I wish you could smell these Mountain Laurels that we planted when we bought this house 22 years ago.

In other news, I have progressed on my Honeydew Lace Square in fingering weight yarn. I have begun the knitted on edging now. I am only on the first side, so quite a ways to go.

Update From Wisconsin

Well, I arrived safely in Wisconsin for the Knit-In on Thursday and spent most of Friday getting the booth ready. The yarn boxes look great if I do say so myself.

Oh, and so does the new still unnamed lace shawl. Yes, I did mange to get it blocked on Wednesday, but just barely. I am so pleased with how it blocked out! I wasn’t sure if the edging would smooth out, and was okay with it if it didn’t, but I had hoped it would. I really love it.

It’s pretty big. That is a king size bed I am blocking it on and you can see it takes up a good bit of it. I thing it was about 56″ square, IIRC.

I took this one yesterday morning in the hotel room.

This is the only way I could figure out to display it in the booth this morning. I think it’s looks pretty good, but maybe I can work out a better way later. I don’t have the pattern ready yet, but I am so pleased with it I thought why not put it out and see if it generates any interest, right?

I did get a bit of knitting done over the last few nights on my little diversion project.

I do have a small problem though. Last night when I was knitting along, my needle came off the cable half way across the row. Don’t you just hate when that happens?! I managed to get it back on another needle I had with me and then stuck the needle back on the cable. I don’t really trust it to knit with now though. Now, I am at a market where I could buy a new one you would think, but I am knitting on a 3.0mm needle, which is not a popular size and is harder to find. I will look if I get a chance today. If I don’t find one I guess I will have to order from Amazon and have it shipped to my hotel in Connecticut, where I am headed from here on Monday. I probably have at least one more 3.0 mm needle at home but I won’t be back there until the 27th. Alternate idea is find something else to cast on that I do have needles for. I’ll let you know what I decide next post. Better get to work since the market is open now. :-)

Still Here..

Good morning blog. I know it has been ages and once again I beg your pardon. Since my last post from Virginia the end of September, it is now the end of another very hectic month.

I arrived home after the Fall Fiber Festival at Montpelier on October the 3rd and hit the ground running. New Era Fiber Mill has kept me super busy dyeing for them with large orders every week. In addition to that, I had a big batch of new Yarn Boxes in cherry and walnut ready for finish and then to be photographed and added to the website. Some of my yarn inventory also needed replenished (which is a good problem to have Smile) so there was yet more dyeing to be done.

Now if that isn’t enough for you, we also had the pleasure of hosting my oldest daughter Alicia’s wedding to Aaron Brown at our home. It was outdoors; a small immediate family affair. All of my children and grandchildren were in attendance except for Meredith and Luke, who were sorely missed. It was wonderful to have everyone together again for a brief reunion. My second oldest daughter, Heather, with Garrod and the three little girls stayed at our house. Oh, and Honey, their sweet doggie, came along as well, much to Emma’s delight. I wish I had thought to get some pictures of those two together because Emma enjoyed Honey’s visit very much.

Anyway, it was a thrown together rather last minute, and went off surprisingly well. Open-mouthed smile I am very happy that they came to Nashville so that we could all be a witness to what will surely be a blessed union.

Here’s a few of my favorite pictures that Heather and I took over the weekend.

I am in Asheville, NC this weekend for SAFF and from here I proceed to Minneapolis, MN for my first Vogue Knitting event. I will make more of an effort to update much sooner next time and fill you in on my travels this week and my recent knitting, not that there has been much of that lately. Open-mouthed smile
