Last Dye Day

Here is the last of the dyeing from Wednesday. We are on to labeling this weekend. I hope to finish it up today.

We got a lot done towards that goal yesterday but still have more than half to go.

I got my Sonnenblume blocked and also finished my Honey Cowl but will save that for my next post since I haven’t had a chance to edit the pictures yet.

I had nothing on the needles and didn’t have a plan, which is rare, so I rummaged through the stash last night and pulled out a skein of sock yarn. I can’t remember the last time I knit any socks. I started a plain pair for myself. :-)

I made it!

Well, I made it! I bound off Sonnenblume last night. It will be at least tomorrow before I get a chance to block it out but here is how it looks now.

My yarn did last but let me tell you it was a squeaker all right. I have less than a gram of yarn left. Yikes!

Here’s a few shots of yesterday’s dyeing. I just have a few batches to do today. I should be finished by lunch  time for a change. :-)

Day Three

I am this close to finishing Sonnenblume. I worked the last two rows last night and got maybe half or a bit more of the bond off done before I had to call it a night. I am pretty sure the yarn will make it.

This is the dyeing we did yesterday. Today we are working on the warm greens, yellows, oranges, pinks and redo purples. Only one more dye day after that. Gotta get to work!

Working Hard

First up in this brief update is my Sonnenblume progress. I am thrilled to report that I am two rows and a bind off away from completion. I am a tad worried at the size of my yarn ball, but the worst that could happen is that I have to dye more. Not a big deal but hope it doesn’t come to that since it would mean a delay.

On Friday the yarn finally arrived so we got started on that work right away. I started off with the two new colors. Here’s a preview of Peacock and Paprika.

There are two other colors in this bottom picture, Peaches and Cream and Atlantic.

Well I am posting from my phone while I am out at the dye pots so I will end here. More yarn pictures and Sonnenblume soon.

Tuesday tasks

Sleeves are so quick on baby things aren’t they? See, I am on the second one and they only take a few hours of knitting each. I should be on to the collar and button bands by my next post.

I had a little bit of dyeing to do today. I found some skeins in inventory which weren’t quite up to specs so I decided to overdye them. I am much happier with them now so it was time well spent. 😊

Time for a new start

I know it’s been awhile since my last post and we have a lot of catching up to do. Hmm should I do it all in one post or a series?

Well let’s start with what’s new, shall we? First of all my grandson Gabriel was born at the beginning of November. He and his mother are temporarily living with us so we are watching him grow by leaps and bounds. He is now 2 months old. This one was taken when he was first born

and this one a week or so ago.

Gabriel

Elijah is also getting to be quite a big boy now. He turned 3 in July and I finally gave him his first haircut. Before…IMG_5201_0176

and after.

My second daughter came to Nashville and brought my granddaughters to see Gabriel and then again between Christmas and New Years Day. This is my fourth daughter Cassie holding Gabriel when he was a couple weeks old.

Now on to Christmas and knitting? Here’s our tree..

And what I got from the children..

See the earrings? Those are my awesome Sassafras Creations from Heather. Love these!

A new coffee mug from Cassie and Joanie. I have been using it everyday. :-)

And how amazing is my new leather bowl with my most favorite band logo (Rush 2112) that Meredith made for me?!!!

Which brings me nicely around to new knitting. I have a few things going and one new thing finished to share. I got an idea to make myself a cowl yesterday and that is what you see here.

I grabbed a skein of Cascade 220 from my stash, picked out a stitch pattern that was cushy and fun and cast on about 24” worth of stitches. That is my progress from last night.

Remember that wrap I started designing last year? 2013 03 08_3523_edited-1.JPG

Well I had finished the first half and has begun the other. I had stored the completed half in my ottoman and a mouse got in the house and chewed up a few places on it. I was too discouraged for awhile to even continue with the knitting but around Christmas I took up my courage and took it out to see if I could salvage it. I neglected to get before and after pictures but suffice it to say I was able to make it work and decided to press on with the second half.

You may have noticed in my picture above of the earrings that I am wearing a green sweater. That is my completed Antler Cardigan. This has become my new go-to sweater. I really love it!

This was taken before I wet blocked it. The color is a bit off but notice the frumpy cables here…

compared to after blocking here? Ladies and gentlemen, always block your knitting. It makes all the difference. :-)

Okay that is all the catching up I have time for this morning since I have to take Alicia to the bus stop for work. I will be back soon with more news!

We are pleased to introduce you to our new colors in our lineup. Pictures are linked to the products on the website. :-)

It’s always interesting to see how the same colors look so different on the different bases isn’t it?

I am super busy this week getting ready for our travels beginning early next week. Therefore I don’t have much time for a long post today. I will try to write another post in a few days and catch you up on my reading and other various stuff. Not much knitting to report anyway. TTYL!

The Robins are back

20130418_093403

I think the robins have made a regular nesting spot of our playhouse tower now. Do you remember my chronicles of our nest watch last year?

They built a nest and successfully reared 4 babies. I guess 4 must be their magic number because they have repeated it this year.

I think the color of Robin’s eggs is one of my favorite colors.

I am glad they like it here because it is fascinating to watch the process from eggs to fledglings in about 3-4 weeks time. I am also glad that ours is a much slower process. :-) I don’t think I would want mine flying the coop quite so rapidly. I wonder if they remember the grown ones when they are gone? Do they have extended family like we do?20130418_093451

Not much knitting progress to show today. I have gotten a few inches on the wrap I am working on but that’s it.

I have read quite a few books in the last couple weeks. I listen to audio books when driving and I have been doing a lot of that lately. Let’s see…I finished Rebecca and The Handmaid’s Tale (both excellent) and then started The End of the Affair . this last one I highly recommend. I have one more hour left in it and have enjoyed it immensely. I picked it up in a BOGO sale at Audible based solely on the fact that it was narrated by Colin Firth and because it is an Audie Award nominee with rave reviews. It has lived up to them in my opinion.

I have also been reading (Nook) the first two Jackson Brodie books by Kate Atkinson. These are okay for light reading. Ithink when I finish One Good Turn I will pick a more heavy book. I am thinking it might be An American Tragedy or maybe Sherlock Holmes . Not sure yet.

In other news I got back to work on my Sticks and Stones vest. Here’s a peek at that.

September knitting and Wisconsin Sheep & Wool

The rows are long on my Twig and Leaf so I haven’t gotten too far yet. It has been a busy week getting ready for and driving to, Wisconsin Sheep & Wool, so only a row or two here and there. I am one or two rows, can’t remember which, from finishing the first of two and a half repeats. After the lace section you work in garter for the short rows at the top. That should go faster. I am waiting until this is done to start Sonneblume because I don’t like having more than one lace thing going. I would only work on one of them anyway. That’s just my way :-)

Oh, so here’s a new thing this week. I had been thinking about getting the new Google Nevus 7 tablet since I first heard about it. I wasn’t sure if I wanted/needed it. I already have and love my Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight which I use for reading; my laptop for main computer stuff with and my Android phone to fill in when am away from my computer. I mean it can do anything a tablet can right? Right. But, since it’s so small in comparison it is more tedious for some things. Also if I had the tablet I could use it for reading too if I wanted to and I can actually access all my books easily from it, like my Kindle app for the few books I have on there which I have up until now only used my PC and phone for that.

So anyway I talked myself into it pretty easily with the fact that it will be good for entertaining Elijah in the truck as the tipping point. :-) It is really fun to use and I can see getting a lot of use from it. I have been playing with it the last couple days and really like it.

So the drive to Wisconsin was pretty uneventful but it is a long day for sure. We got on the road at about 4:45am and arrived here about 5:30pm. I let the girls and Elijah sleep in until after 8:30 this morning while I rose at 7:00 for some quiet time with my coffee and breakfast. I did some reading and internet browsing on my tablet. Then after everyone was up and dressed we went to set up the booth.

Elijah rode in the back carrier to keep him out from under foot while the girls unloaded the stuff fro the trailer.

Here’s our space before we get all moved in.

We get started by arranging the fixtures and once we have decided where everything will fit best we start putting out the merchandise.

Et Voila! About 2-3 hours later it is all pretty and ready for the shoppers!
