Sticks and Stones

I have been meaning to write this post for a few days and I am finally getting it done. I finished my Sticks and Stones vest on Tuesday. According to my Ravelry notebook that means it took me just over three months to knit it, but I did complete the Twig and Leaf during that time period as well so it’s not really too bad. Well for me anyway.

My lovely daughter Meredith consented to model for me. She can really pull off a vest can’t she?

I don’t know about you, but I think vests are a great addition to the wardrobe. They are perfect for layering in colder weather and perfect for adding warmth when a full sweater with sleeves would be more than you need. I really like the way the easy but interesting stitch pattern and textural interest to the fabric and the cables frame and add structure.

The other thing I love about it is that it is written for sport weight yarn which I have found is my preferred weight now. I like my sport weight sweaters and wear them way more than my heavier worsted weight ones. They don’t really take me any longer to knit either even though you would think they would. They add just as much warmth but none of the heaviness and bulk. If you have been “scared of little needles” for sweaters, please just trust me. Try it and you will not go back. What I would like to try too is a feather weight cardigan in my Classic Merino Lace. I bet that would be so comfortable to wear. Now what pattern and color? hmmm

Well, I am not starting that until I finish my poor neglected Sprossling. I picked that back up the other night and am almost finished with the second front piece which means I will be casting on for the sleeves very soon. Wow, I just looked to see when I cast on for this project and it was January 2011. Shame on me. It’s time to get this in the wardrobe don’t you think?
